From the Renegade Rebbezin:
- The Red Cross's donation page for victims of Hurricane Katrina (I'm not even going to try to absorb the fact that New Orleans is underwater): https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp
- The Orthodox Union is collecting funds to be exclusively used for families who were removed from their homes in Gaza and Northern Shomron. The funds will be distributed through the OU's Seymour J. Abrams Israel Center in Jerusalem. Details can be found and donations can be made at https://www.ou.org/forms/5765/gaza65.asp
John & Ken and KFI Talk Radio are sponsoring an event today to raise funds for the victims of Katrina.
John & Ken are asking all our listeners to come down to the Ayres Hotel in Laguna Woods, TODAY from 3-7pm. John & Ken, KFI and The Red Cross will be teaming up to raise money for the disaster that has occurred after the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. Alongside John & Ken will be other KFI personalities that will stop by and make an appearance. With thousands possibly dead, and the clean up seemingly endless, the Red Cross needs your donation to aid people in the Southern Gulf Coast. The Red Cross will be taking MONETARY DONATIONS ONLY. This catastrophe happened on our own shore and we all need to do our part.

Last night I was relieved to spot on my Buddy list the e-mail signature of a New Orleans book fair chair I met at the Jewish Book Council events in June. She told me that she and her husband had been evacuated to her parents' home in Mississippi, that she imagines her house is gone.
I told her she sounded amazingly calm.
"I'm here with my husband and my parents, my brother and sister-in-law," she told me. "My children, thank G-d, don't live in New Orleans."
She paused. "It hasn't hit me yet."
